چکیده

Lester Dubins and Leonard Savage posed the question as to what extent the optimal reward function U of a gambling problem varies continuously in the gambling house Γ and utility function u. Here a distance is defined for measurable houses with a Borel state space and a bounded Borel measurable utility. A trivial example shows that the mapping Γ → U is not always continuous. However, it is lower semicontinuous in the sense that, if Γ n converges to Γ, then lim inf U n ≥ U. Dubins and Savage observed that a failure of continuity occurs when a sequence of superfair casinos converges to a fair casino, and queried whether this is the only source of discontinuity for the special gambling problems called casinos. For the distance used here, an example shows that there can be discontinuity even when all the casinos are subfair.

Task Assignment and Path Planning for Multiple Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Using 3D Dubins Curves †

This paper investigates the task assignment and path planning problem for multiple AUVs in three dimensional (3D) underwater wireless sensor networks where nonholonomic motion constraints of underwater AUVs in 3D space are considered. The multi-target task assignment and path planning problem is modeled by the Multiple Traveling Sales Person (MTSP) problem and the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used...

The Foundations of Probability with Black Swans

We extend the foundation of probability in samples with rare events that are potentially catastrophic, called black swans, such as natural hazards, market crashes, catastrophic climate change, and species extinction. Such events are generally treated as “outliers” and disregarded. We propose a new axiomatization of probability requiring equal treatment in the measurement of rare and frequent ev...

Geometric Modeling of Dubins Airplane Movement and its Metric

The time-optimal trajectory for an airplane from some starting point to some final point is studied by many authors. Here, we consider the extension of robot planer motion of Dubins model in three dimensional spaces. In this model, the system has independent bounded control over both the altitude velocity and the turning rate of airplane movement in a non-obstacle space. Here, in this paper a g...

Merging of Opinions and Probability kinematics

We explore the question of whether sustained rational disagreement is possible from a broadly Bayesian perspective. The setting is one where agents update on the same information, with special attention being given to the case of uncertain information. The classical merging of opinions theorem of Blackwell and Dubins shows when updated beliefs come and stay closer for Bayesian conditioning. We ...

Improving on Bold Play When the Gambler Is Restricted

Suppose a gambler starts with a fortune in (0, 1) and wishes to attain a fortune of 1 by making a sequence of bets. Assume that whenever the gambler stakes the amount s, the gambler’s fortune increases by s with probability w and decreases by s with probability 1−w, where w < 1/2. Dubins and Savage showed that the optimal strategy, which they called “bold play”, is always to bet min{f, 1 − f}, ...
